The Weekly DC TV Easter Egg Report for the week of November 16-22, 2015

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 4: Livewire
Livewire
This episode is named for its titular villain Livewire. Livewire was created by Bruce Timm in the Superman Animated series first (Superman: The Animated Series- September 1997 “Livewire.”) then appeared in the comic Superman Adventures (Superman Adventures #5- March 1997), a comic book tie-in to the show.  In 2006 she finally appeared in the mainstream DC Comics Universe in Action Comics #835 (March 2006).  She is always Leslie Willis in every version. Leslie is a shock jock in the DCAU (DC Animated Universe) and the pre-New 52 DC Universe. She gained her powers and changed her appearance in the DCAU by being struck by lightning like on the show. In the mainstream DC Universe, Livewire always had the ability to control electricity, but her appearance changed after being hit by lightning. She is in the New 52, but instead of a shock jock she is a vlogger.  She gained her powers after being electrocuted during a prank.

Gotham Season 2 Episode 9: A Bitter Pill to Swallow

Flamingo AKA Eduardo Flamingo was created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely and was introduced in Batman #666 (July 2007).  He is a cannibalistic hitman like the character in the show. In the comics his clothing is a bit more flamboyant than the version seen in the Gotham TV show. He has appeared in the New 52, basically the same as his Pre-Flashpoint counterpart.

The Flash Season 2 Episode 7: Gorilla Warfare
3291225-grodd
Gorilla Grodd first appeared in The Flash #106 (May 1959) and was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino. Grodd and the rest of the members of Gorilla City were created by either a radioactive meteor (original origin) or by a pilot of a crashed alien spacecraft (retconned origin). Either way the gorillas gained sentience. They created Gorilla City. Grodd has since the incident had telepathic powers as well. Grodd is a despot wanting to control all in his sphere. It looks like Gorilla City exists on Earth 2. He is a main Flash villain, but he does not get along well with humans. For that reason even though a Flash villain, he is not a member of the Rogues.

Arrow Season 4 Episode 7: Brotherhood

Wolfman Biologics is a nod to one of the two creators of H.I.V.E.  H.I.V.E. was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez in New Teen Titans #2 (December 1980). They hired Deathstroke to kill the New Teen Titans. Marv Wolfman also created Deathstroke, Billy Wintergreen, Blade (Marvel), Cyborg, Starfire, Raven, Robin/Red Robin (Tim Drake), Cat Grant, Lyla Michaels (Harbinger in the comics/John Diggle’s wife in Arrow), Doctor Light (Kimiyo Hoshi), Nova (Marvel), and the Nova Corps (Marvel).

Until next week, enjoy your DC TV shows.
