Since this has been a growing trend over the last few years, this feels more like jumping on the bandwagon a bit…but I’m very interested to see how this new Doctor will react to her own regeneration. They can have some fun with this.
Imagining having anatomy that you’ve never had before. What’s the first thing you’d say?
Welcome the 13th (14th, what about John Hurt?) Doctor, Jodie Whittaker!
I’ve never seen her in anything, so just like all the Doctor’s before her, I have not preconceived notions on her characterization or acting. Peter Capaldi I’d only seen in his previous one episode appearance, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I could go and try to binge on some of her previous roles, but I want to see her as the iconic character, not as someone I know from her other roles.
She’s a younger Doctor, and I know some fans prefer an older Doctor. I haven’t yet seen anyone complain about her age. I haven’t even seen anyone comment about her gender…except for a crowd of people who are attacking anyone who might complain about it. Once again, I don’t see any complaints…the only ones making a big deal out of this are those who are saying people are going to complain. Get a hobby. Seriously.
There are of course the expected “Now my daughter knows she can do anything” comments flying around. That’s nice and all, but make sure she learns that lesson from you, parents, not from a television casting.
We’ll first get to see Jodie as the Doctor in the upcoming Christmas special…and if they want my advice…don’t make a fuss or big deal about the Doctor being a woman…just tell us great stories (after your done with a funny reaction to the new situation right after regeneration).
