Gotham City was named in Batman #4 (Winter 1940). Gotham is a historic nickname for New York City coined in 1807 by author, Washington Irving. Typically Gotham City has been placed in New Jersey near the Delaware border. Gotham takes inspiration from the seedier histories of New York City and Chicago. In live action film Gotham has been filmed in Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and New York City.
Rupture AKA Armando Ramone/Armando Ramon AKA Reverb AKA Hardline was created by Gerry Conway and Chuck Patton in Justice League of America #233 (December, 1984). In the New 52, Armando was transported to another universe where he was turned into a living weapon. The New 52 version was introduced by Andrew Kreisberg, Geoff Johns and Pete Woods in Justice League of America’s Vibe Vol. 1 #1 (April, 2013). Dante Ramon was introduced in that same issue with the New 52 version of Armando. He has no powers unlike his two brothers. The Flash has merged Armando and Dante into one.
Some interesting tidbits in this episode, the particle accelerator wave hit Wally West and Jesse “Quick” Wells. Will they now be speedsters? In the Comics, Wally was the first Kid Flash and the third Flash. Also there is a speedster named Jesse Quick in the comics. Henry Allen told us Garrick was his mother’s maiden name. Will the true Jay Garrick of Earth 2 be Barry’s cousin or uncle from another world? This is just food for thought Neverlanders.
Arrow Season 4 Episode 20: Genesis
Star City is said to have first appeared in 1941, more than likely in More Fun Comics #73. In the 1960’s the location is in the Great Lakes. In the 1970’s it is said to be near the Massachusetts Bay. One source put it in Connecticut. Post-Crisis it has been said to be north of San Francisco in California.
Vandal Savage talked about giving a caveman fire. In the comics Vandal Savage is not four thousand years old but millions of years old. He is either a Neanderthal or a Cro-Magnon who evolved. The actual priest that reincarnates with Chay-Ara and Prince Khufu is Hath-Set. Hath-Set was introduced by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville in Flash Comics #1 (January 1940). He was the scientist Dr. Anton Hastor in the 1940’s. He fought Hawkman, Hawkgirl, the Justice Society of America, and the All-Star Squadron. He was reincarnated more recently as Helene Astar. His original origin was he led a rebellion and killed Khufu and his wife Chay-Ara. She was not a priestess in the comics. The dagger he used was Nth metal and it caused their souls to be tethered to each other through time. Nth metal is used to make the wings of all of the comic book versions of the Hawks (Hawkman, Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman), Thanagarians, and etc. In DC’s Legends of Tomorrow the wings are part of the characters not something worn like the comics.
